Til Schweiger: The documentary on Bastian Schweinsteger begins in Amazon Prime

Tel Schwaiger is famous for films. It has now produced a documentary on the world champion Bastian Schweinsteiger. In an interview, the 56 -year -old explains how it happened.

The documentary is not just a movie about Schweinsteiger, but also about the golden generation of football players to which he belongs. Why did you choose it and not – for example – Philip Lam?

I did not choose it, they chose me, called me and asked me if we could imagine making a movie about Bastian. But even if you choose the protagonist – Bastian would have been. He is not only a great soccer player, but he is also an incredibly interesting character.

What does you like?

His distraction and eyes. Decide within seconds whether or not you love someone – this was the case with Bastian immediately. He has a spirit of humor and sympathy and I love everyone on an equal footing. Bastian is not a type of cyclist – homogeneous and stepped down.

The film is very emotional in parts of it – especially in the end, when Schweinsteiger announced his retirement from professional football in the Chicago Fire dressing room, crying mucus and watering himself.

I am still affected by some scenes as well – especially the latter. Initially, Bastian was not sure if he wanted it in the movie. But I said: Basti, this is the most prominent in the movie. It should stay in. Fortunately, he changed his opinion after that.

You are a special friend of Schweinsteger. Did you get to know something new about while working in the joint movie?

What I did not know at all was that he was so great skillful that he overcame Felix Nuyos, his best friend. It was a news for me that it was one day better than the best ski that Germany ever knew.

Schweinsteiger is seen as a person who protects his very private life. Do you feel as if you were close to the film anyway?

yes. It is understood that someone does not want to see his young children in front of the camera. But I am very grateful, for example, because Bastian and Anna gave us very pictures of their wedding. And that his father is Farid and trusted the life of Basti as a person who never wanted to lose, as this deserves his weight, of course. This scene, in which the little Basti collects the cans fiercely, wonderful. I also wanted to allow my mother to express her opinion, but she didn’t want to be in front of the camera and you have to accept it. Pope is really wonderful for that.

Otherwise, did you get all the comrades you wanted?

People were also asked about who does not want to participate. But most of them immediately agreed.

You yourself say in the documentary that you woke up in the morning after losing the World Cup semi -finals to Italy in 2006 and immediately exploded crying again. Why does football consider something emotional for many?

I don’t know either, but it is certain. You choose your favorite club as a child and for me this was Bayern Munich from the start – although I can definitely sympathize with other teams. I encourage Dortmund myself – when he plays internationally. And I think what they do in Leipzig is very wonderful.

To what extent did you make yourself a football player?

Local league.

What site?

It has turned from the center of the left wing in the midfield to the center of the left -back.

Have you tasted blood now and can you imagine the production of more documentaries?

In any case. I wasn’t used to watching documentaries, but now I think it’s great. It is its own type, you cannot compare it to telling fictional stories. Maybe I will try it myself as a director. This time I was only a producer and wanted to take this veteran documentary. But I am not interested in documentaries about animals or anything like that. People are the most interesting thing.

Do you really have concrete plans?

Not for documentaries, but in reality we wanted to shoot a long feature film in April and another in July. Corona has now postponed everything indefinitely. The status of the cinema industry is catastrophic, of course, and there is no other way to put it. I expect that many cinemas will not survive this. One can only hope that there is no second wave. If there should be another closure – not only the film industry cannot deal with that, no one can deal with it at all.

How did you face the closure personally? Have you also discovered something positive on this topic? Play keywords?

Anyone who knows me knows that he was very restricted to me. Creating things and meeting people who inspire me is important for me. So I did not find it comfortable in any way. It is great that the water in the gun is clear and that the dolphins swim there again – but for me personally I do not see anything positive about the Corona condition.

The documentary “Schw31ns7eger: Memories – From The Beginning to the Legend” will be shown on Amazon Prime Video from June 5.
