Thirteen Lives, One Amazing Rescue, Two Movies

When 12 young footballers and their coach were rescued days later in a flooded cave in an unprecedented collaboration between Thai and international experts, watch the world in 2018. Now you can watch the drama as a feature film and as a documentary. To recommend both.

The new feature film: a co-production from MGM and Amazon Prime is available to stream today. Thirteen Lives tells an incredible story with great star power: Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Taron Egerton play dive specialists:

Director Ron Howard tells of the unprecedented rescue, despite prominent American actors, but fortunately not a “white savior moment” in which selfless and intelligent white people appear to the locals least able to do so. The performance and knowledge of foreign assistants is appreciated, but the Thai heroes are in no way forgotten.

The guy also knows how to make a large and proper dramatic: Ron Howard directed, among other things, “Apollo 13”, another brilliant rescue with a happy ending.

“Rescue” – Documentary

The award-winning documentary has been available on Disney+ since 2021. You don’t have to choose between the two formats. Why not watch the feature film first and then discover in “Rescue” how the film’s heroes act and describe events in real life?

Here is the trailer:

The level of suspense is incredibly high in both films. No wonder: the signs were not at all conducive to saving the boys and their coach. The fact that we were able to do this is due to nerve-wracking efforts, the combined solution of seemingly intractable problems and the unconditional will of many who simply did not want to give up. In the end, two Thai rescuers lost their lives, but she and her colleagues saved many lives.

Packing, inspiring, emotional, worth seeing.
