- A new fantasy epic based on the stories of JRR Tolkin has been running since 2017.
- Who is playing? What is the budget? Where is the shooting? Here you can find all the information about the big version.
Nearly six years after director Peter Jackson last took us into the wonderful world around Middle-earth, “The Lord of the Rings” is finally renewed. Amazon* announced in 2017 that it was working on a series based on the J.R.R. Tolkien stories. One thing is for sure: the series will probably be the most expensive ever produced. The budget is estimated at more than one billion US dollars. The new “Lord of the Rings” saga beats the former boss: HBO’s ten-part mini-series “The Pacific” was filmed in 2020 and cost “only” about US$217 million.
The start date of the new fantasy series has also been set. On September 2, 2022, Season 1 will begin online on Amazon Prime Video. Until then, we’re gathering all the new information about where to cast, filming location and more for you here.
Here are the first trailers for Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” series
After there was a lot of information and first graphic material about the upcoming “Lord of the Rings” series coming from Amazon early on, there is now real animated material.
The first teaser titled “Lord of the Rings” for the series stirred mixed feelings
Reactions to the first harassment were initially mixed. In the video, we see misty landscapes and molten metal seemingly making its way through mountain ranges. The whole thing drowns out the voice of a woman talking about the famous episodes of the saga. Finally, one of the rings is made of the material.
Clip review: Everything looks like a pretty bad animation – not as epic as one would have liked for this multi-million dollar project. Now it turns out: That’s right, the video is not an animation. Fire, smoke, mountains – all recreated on a miniature set. This is now shown in a behind-the-scenes video of the trailer:
Another teaser appeared – but not for everyone
Now there’s another teaser – but with a small plus: a new insight into the series exclusively for Prime members. At least if you want to see the full 56 seconds. And even in this case you have to act fast! According to Businesswire, the preview will only be available on Amazon Prime Video for a few hours. At least the first 15 seconds of the teaser are also available on YouTube:
For those who don’t have a subscription (yet): The teaser shows a comet noticed by elves, hobbits, and ents. We also see familiar characters from their younger years, such as Galadriel, Lady of Lothlórien, and Elrond, Lord of Rivendell. At the end of the preview, we learned that this is a teaser to announce the next trailer. This will be released on July 14, 2022.
Story: What is the Lord of the Rings series?
The creators of the new “Lord of the Rings” series made one thing clear from the start: The seasons won’t be remakes of the hit movies. Instead, the series is set to take place many years before the adventures of Frodo and his companions. More precisely: a whole 3000 years ago. And this also shows: many old faces from famous films will not return to the set. However, the characters Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Elrond (Hugo Weaving) are said to appear in the series – but it has also been confirmed that the elves will be represented with the youngsters.
Back to the plot: The series revolves around the so-called Second Age of Middle-earth. Among other things, it should concern the rise and fall of the island kingdom of Númenor and the Elven capital at Lindon. In addition, the story of the Dark Lord Sauron will be retold.
