Cottbus(MB). Straße der Jugend, one of the most important traffic hubs in Cottbus, will be closed to traffic from July 11, 2022. The reason for this is the extensive construction work by various companies and crafts. The closure affects the section between Feigestrasse / Bürgerstrasse and Ostrwer Strasse / Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse. This means that one of the north-south axes cannot be constantly crossed – with a significant impact on the movement of the tram. Work is expected to be completed in May 2023. Complex civil engineering works are being carried out to expand Al Shabab Street. This includes the transfer of lines from Stadtwerke Cottbus, the refurbishment and completion of lines from Lausitzer Wasser GmbH and the repair of traffic systems in the city of Cottbus. LWG, City, GVC, EVC, and DNSNet will implement their services for drinking piping, rainwater, sewage system, gas piping, ELT pipes, fiber optic cables and basic road construction at the same time and is divided into three construction phases. The expansion began in 2008 as part of the basic expansion of the Youth Route from the city ring road to Feigestrasse. For this purpose, the street sewage system for LWG was redesigned and installed and installed in the mixed water collector there. In order to create an efficient separation system, a connection to the existing rainwater streams at Rudolf-Breitscheid-Strasse must be established. This connection represents the last missing part of the rainwater drainage in the catchment area, which has been gradually expanded over the past decades. This is intended to mitigate areas known to be at risk of flooding, such as the underpass at Straße der Jugend. In general, this is an important municipal measure to reduce the overflow of the common sewage system in Cottbus. Moreover, traffic facilities (roads and sidewalks) will be reorganized from Feigestrasse / Bürgerstrasse to Ostrower Strasse / Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse in terms of traffic. The construction project includes widening the road and sidewalks, constructing longitudinal parking lots for delivery traffic, and constructing traffic facilities to protect cyclists. The track system surface regeneration is performed by Cottbusverkehr. Due to the construction work, there will be significant changes to tram lines 1, 3 and 4. Bus lines 15, 29, 44 and 47, which will also have to be converted, will also be affected. The transfer will be via Bahnhofstrasse. Tram line 1 will not be used during the construction period. Instead, an alternative service will be offered on line EV 1 between “Schmellwitz Anger” and “Stadthalle”. Line 3 trains run directly from Bahnhofstraße to Ströbitz. This means that the Stadthalle station will not be served by line 3 during the entire construction period. Tram line 4 runs between Sachsendorf and Neu-Schmelwitz via Bahnhofstrasse and Stadthalle. Tram lines will serve all stations along the Bahnhofstrasse. Bus lines 15, 29, 44 and 47 will also be diverted through Bahnhof Street. These also serve stations along Bahnhofstrasse. During the entire construction period, the stations “Görlitzer Straße (Nord)”, “Marienstraße / Glad-House” and “Stadtpromenade” will not be served. Stadtpromenade bus stops along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße are offered regularly.
