Mr. Woidke, what has brought you to the quiet monastery of Lehnin in all places through your civil dialogue?
Dietmar Wodecke: Citizens Dialogue takes me to towns and villages all over the country. After Schwedt in Uckermark and Beeskow in the Oder-Spree District, now to Lehnin Abbey in Potsdam-Mittelmark. I would like to know what moves people here in this rural area. I would like to talk to you about the big and small questions of state policy. The beautiful place is a kind of interface between the urban area of Berlin-Potsdam and the rural areas. Thus, the place represents the opportunities and challenges that are united by all Brandenburg. Due to the former monastery, the community is also an important place for Brandenburg culture and history. Both form a good framework for civil dialogue. And a few days ago, forests in the Potsdam Mittelmark district burned. This is also an important topic in the region.
The responsible planning community wants to designate a 400-hectare industrial zone on the A2 between Lehnin Abbey and Brandenburg an der Havel. How and in what form does the state government support the project, what industrial settlements do you think are feasible and conceivable and how can citizens at the same time allay their fears that the project will overwhelm the area for environmental and climatic reasons?

We need new business parks because we need space for businesses that create jobs. After the Tesla settlement, the number of settlement inquiries increased dramatically. A strong economy is the basis of our prosperity. Whether the planned site is the correct site is determined in the planned planning and approval procedures. All concerns are taken into account, including of course the effects on the environment and climate. Citizens participate in the proceedings and can raise their questions and concerns.

The area around Kloster Lenin also sees increasing numbers of people moving from the Berlin metropolitan area. A new school center is now under construction. At the same time, more infrastructure projects and the expansion of public transportation are missing to make the area attractive to newcomers. What specific projects is the state government planning in the medium term for the area in and around Lehnin Abbey?
Investments in road and rail infrastructure are a major issue across the country. When it comes to railways, the Potsdam-Mittlemark area is well located with Regional Express 1 and 7 and Regional Train 33. With the schedule change in December, there will be more improvements, ie additional trains and more space. RegioBus Potsdam Mittelmark GmbH is the company “PlusBus master” of ten lines. PlusBus means that the bus comes at least once an hour – even on weekends – based on train schedules. Deir Hanin also benefits from this. The state doesn’t forget Potsdam-Mittlemark motorists, too. The bridge over the flood ditch at Lübnitz on State Route 95 is under tender, construction preparations are underway for the intersection between State Routes 90 and 86 in Phöben, State Route 86 between Groß Kreutz and Schmergow and the Transit in Dietersdorf is under construction. There are also new bike lanes.
Suppose you had three wishes for Kloster Lehnin: what would they be?

I hope that cohesion and community spirit remain at the top in all counties, that people remain open to immigration and that many visitors carry their enthusiasm for the beautiful, water-rich land of Lehniner across the country.
