What you want to know about Culture Night

Göttingen.After a two-year break, Culture Night organized by Pro-City will once again be celebrated on Saturday in downtown Göttingen. From Waageplatz to Albanikirche, there are stages, activities, art, culture and programs everywhere in the city centre. Who, when, where and how? From when to how long is the cultural program running?

It starts at 3pm – eg at Wilhelmsplatz – where the Stadtwerke Children and Family Theater is located, there’s K-Pop starting with KAZ cover dance group from Göttingen. This stage could be found in the Weekly Market in previous years, but will be renewed this year. The last concerts start at 10 pm in different stages. Finished at 11 pm. If you then want to keep partying, you can go to the clubs and bars.

Do I need a Culture Night ticket?

No, almost all concerts, exhibitions, dance shows and hands-on activities are free of charge. Only tickets for a concert seat for the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (GSO) at 8 pm in the market cost ten euros in advance. If you don’t have one yet: “There are still tickets left at the box office from 7 p.m. at the entrance on Market Square,” says Pro-City’s Frederic Breyer. GSO plays the “Dance Around the World” program led by Nicholas Melton.

How will the weather be?

Warm in the summer. Website wetter.de is forecasting “a small chance of light rain and wind with 12 hours of sun” for Saturday. The temperature can reach 26 degrees. The German weather service expects clouds to change, occasional showers and 25 degrees for Lower Saxony on Saturday.

Is there a Sunday for shopping after the festival?

No. Shopping will be next Sunday 3 July, then there will be a “Gottingen attraction” campaign and the shops in the city will be open from 1 pm to 6 pm. The Gänselieselfest takes place on September 25th.

Bus: Is parking available?

There is no special offer for Park & ​​Ride on Culture Night. City buses in GöVB run largely according to the usual schedule. However, Wilhelmsplatz will not be reached due to the event. From 1 pm to 1 am on Sunday, according to GöVB, lines 50, 71/72 and 80 will turn right onto Rote Straße just before Jüdenstraße station and continue via Albanikirchhof. Then line 80 turns left towards Herzberger Landstrasse. The next scheduled stop is “Theatreplatz”. After the Albanikirchhof, lines 50 and 71/72 go right to Herzberger Landstraße. The “Albaniplatz” station is served again as scheduled. An alternative station “Jüdenstrasse” will be established on Rote Strasse for the affected lines. With the nine-euro ticket, visitors from the region can use public transport to arrive and leave.

Is there better acting in pop concerts?

This of course is always a matter of taste. Flooot is one of the most popular bands and therefore a candidate for best representation in pop music. From 9 p.m., the boys will be on stage at the University Theater and Woggon at Wilhelmsplatz.

Once again, flute musicians visit their hometown for Culture Night – to which they have already dedicated a song. With trombons, trumpets and plenty of steam, the six musicians guarantee fun and a good mood. Standing is still hard there.

What if you want to sit in peace?

Then the churches in the city center offer a little cultural respite from the hustle and bustle of the streets. There will be a program from 7pm at St John’s Church behind Old Town Hall. At first with the gospel choir, followed by a concert on the organ, the trombone choir of St. Johannes and at 10 pm “Missa da Pacem” by Josquín Deprez Harnisch. In St. Albany there is evening sacred music at 6pm and classical music on the program at 6pm at St. Jacoby’s Church. The rarely opened St. Nikolai University Church in Nikolaistrasse is open from 11 am to 10 pm, and the installation is called “Air! Air! My heart is choking.”

Here is a DJ

From 6pm Supporters Crew 05, the umbrella organization for Göttingen 05 fans, will be present for the first time with their own theater in front of the self-managed fan room at Oberen-Masch-Straße 10. It starts there at 4pm with DJ Halli Galli, followed by Timo Turner (77’s punk, glam, ska), Aperola Secci (2000’s R’n’ B, techno fairground), Champanja and at 9.30pm Videkiss with techno. The Six Million Dollar Club can be found from 5 pm on Weender Landstraße 2 – in front of the hall – with the Dollar Club DJ and special guests.

Where can I find restrooms?

The usual public toilets are located in the city of Göttingen, namely on Weender Strasse / corner of Untere Karspüle, on Friedrichstrasse / corner of Obere Karspüle and on Kurzen / corner of Turmstrasse. In addition, Pro-City will set up mobile toilets in the car park at Waageplatz. “At some stages there are also agreements with nearby restaurants, which give access to their restrooms for a fee. The signage is then placed accordingly,” says Frederic Breyer of Pro-City.

Is there also a medical service?

Yes, there are German Red Cross assistants ready in a medical tent on Wilhelmsplatz.

Dance shows by groups from Göttingen’s sports clubs as well as the cumbia with Bazurto All Stars can be watched from 4 pm until the evening on the Sparda Bank Theater in Waageplatz. Swing and Lindy-Hop are on show at the Börnerviertel from 6:30 pm. Those interested can also experience the dance culture at the old fencing hall at Arte la Dancy.
