On Saturday 11 June, from 11 am to 6 pm there will be an indoor and outdoor sports festival for everyone in parallel with the tournament. The club, training rooms, outdoor area, and gymnasium at the Garden School are the sites. In addition, the winners will be chosen in the virtual Geturf race.

200 Taekwondo fighters announced themselves in Gethwerk to participate in the 2nd Taekwondo Entertainment Cup. Ulf Hopf, coach in the department, explains the meaning of this: “It is a competition for young talents that leads to competitions at a higher level. The most important role is played by the enjoyment of martial arts and communication with athletes from other clubs.”

Recreational Taekwondo Cup and training in Gethwerk have been temporarily suspended due to Corona

It was announced by the National Taekwondo Association. After the events at Glückstadt and Ellerhoop, GTV was asked if they could host the event. “Of course we wanted that.” That was a new field for the big sports club. Even the youngest trained with enthusiasm. The 2020 Cup was a success. The biggest disappointment was the suspension of the Fun Cup and Training the following year. After all, taekwondo is unthinkable without physical contact.

Hopf: “When he started training again in 2021 according to the rules of hygiene, we were happy. But at some point everyone who trains hard will want to compete with the others.” At the Sports Festival in the Sports Park in the summer of 2021, the GTV division gave a public show. “More than 40 children were immediately enrolled in taekwondo,” says the coach. “A lot of them remain.”

Nearly 90 adults, youth, and children practice Taekwondo at GTV today. But only ten of them participate in the Fun Cup. “We take a close look at young people to see who is the right fit and who has a small chance of success,” explains Hopf. “Anyone who associates the first competition with a negative experience will not want to compete later.”

Coach Ulf Hopf from the Taekwondo division of Gettorf Gymnastics is delighted that the 2022 Fun Cup will be held again.
