Celebrations of the Queen’s 70th birthday ended after the surprise public appearance of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King appeared again on Sunday afternoon in a green mantle and matching hat on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, waving to hundreds of thousands of jubilant spectators. Her closest relatives stood by her side: her son and heir to the throne Prince Charles with his wife, Duchess Camilla, grandson Prince William and his family. William’s younger brother Prince Harry, who no longer had royal duties, was absent.
Families had previously watched a colorful parade of more than 10,000 participants in front of the palace. The Golden State coach’s “Jubilee Pageant” show was last on the road 20 years ago – including a hologram of the Queen. After that, elements of the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force marched down the Mall with 200 horsemen. They were followed by members of several clubs who recreated scenes from the Queen’s 70-year reign.
Change has been reflected in British society since 1952, for example in the areas of music, fashion and youth culture. Cars of all contracts participated. The epilogue should be 150 “national treasures,” including celebrities like football legend Gary Lineker.
During the day, millions of Britons across the country celebrated their head of state on shared outings. In parks, on boardwalks, in nursing homes and on the streets, people sat together and shared sandwiches, salads, quiches, and sausage rolls — sausages in batter. Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla also took part in a ‘Jubilee Lunch’ at The Oval cricket grounds in London, where the Queen’s son-in-law was cutting a cake. At the festival, Charles called for maintaining a sense of community — and not returning to bickering after the four-day festivities, according to other guests.
It is estimated that millions of people took part in about 16,000 street parties and 85,000 “big lunch” outings across the country. All residents could register for festivals in advance, and there were also many publicly organized events. Some municipalities have waived fees already owed for road closures to allow parties.
The night before, the Queen was honored with a huge concert in front of Buckingham Palace. Prince Charles thanked his “mother” for his decades of leadership and dedication. The 96-year-old queen, who continued to rest due to mobility issues, was absent. However, she opened the show with a recorded short film starring the famous character Paddington.

At London’s cricket stadium The Oval, heir to the throne Prince Charles and his wife, Duchess Camilla, also participated in a “jubilee lunch”, where the Queen’s son-in-law was cutting a cake. A six-meter-long cake buffet was made of felt.
Guests who spoke with Charles later told the Palestinian News Agency that the 73-year-old had called for maintaining that sense of community – and not returning to bickering after the four-day celebration.

Like the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, and his wife, Countess Sophie the Queen at lunch in Windsor. The palace has released pictures showing Duchess Kate, the wife of Prince William, the Queen’s grandson, baking cakes with her three children. She added that the sweets were intended for a street party in the Welsh capital Cardiff.
