IG Metall presses Fosen Yard: “We need to find out what’s going on at Emden and Stralsund.”
Stralsund.A number of city politicians are concerned about the commitment of Vossen Yard in Stralsund. Next week Citizenship could deal more specifically with the issue, as the Green faction is pushing for comprehensive information and details about the Vossen deal via an emergency motion. Norwegian shipbuilders are the second major tenant of the new business park Volksverft. The lease agreement with the Hanseatic city of Stralsund must enter into force on 1 June. But the start in Stralsund was overshadowed by the simultaneous insolvency of the subsidiary Vossen in Emden (Lower Saxony).

Green politician Jürgen Sør: Stralsund’s participation in Vossen should be questioned
“After the bankruptcy in Emden, we have to critically question Vossen’s commitment to Stralsund,” Jürgen Sohr (Greens).

“The bankruptcy of the subsidiary ‘Fosen Yard’ is a troubling event that raises questions about the cooperation between the Hanseatic city of Stralsund and the Fosen Yard group,” Jürgen Suhr, chair of the parliamentary group Alliance Greens, said in a press release on Thursday. . “I can understand why Mayor Dr. Padro was reflexive to bankruptcy, he knows very well that the city has taken a very high risk by taking over the shipyard and developing the business park.” However, Suhr does not think this is appropriate. The mere fact that the parent company has let its subsidiary go bankrupt gives reason to critically question this entire operation, also regarding Fosen Yard’s involvement in Stralsund.”

IG Metall: Fosen hasn’t built any ‘castles in the air’ in Emden
Suhr does not only require clarity and transparency from the top management. Labor union IG Metall is also putting pressure on her. “We need to know what is planned in Emden and also in Stralsund,” says Thomas Breus of IG Metall Emden. Similar to the Stralsund shipbuilding site, the traditional Nordseewerke in Emden has been in crisis mode for years. Including Fossen’s bankruptcy, there are five bankruptcies in about ten years. “Every bankruptcy is different. Each one is a blow to the workforce.” After completing the salmon farms under Fosen, one had hoped for new orders. However, these were not forthcoming.” It must be said that the Fosen Group did not Never build castles in the air after taking Emden. They were always open, connected and also transparent in communication. If there were no orders, they said so,” Prius says.
Development in Stralsund has a “taste” from Emden’s point of view
“We are delighted with every job that is being created in Stralsund,” Prius continued. “On the other hand, Emden shipbuilders have to see that they can now get out of insolvency.” However, the current merger with development in Stralsund will have a “taste”. “There is a fear that orders will be delayed,” Breus says. This was also an issue at a business meeting on Thursday. Recently, an order for the construction of six new cargo ships is supposed to give impetus to shipbuilding in Emden. But she did not come to it.
It is not clear where the LNG transport ships will be built
In Stralsund, the city administration is now hoping that Fosen Yards can implement “the entire program in its entirety” on sound. This also includes the construction of four LNG fuel vessels, the tender that Fosen Yard in Germany recently won. “Three should be built in Emden, and one in Stralsund, because it probably has a particularly large reservoir,” Breus says.

That’s why Prius hits the ecstasy brakes, just like Suhr. The Green Party politician sees the city administration and Vossen Yards as having a duty to “present a concrete and actionable concept”. “These are the basic requirements for federal and state support,” Suhr says.
