Paving the way for Toyota’s next top sports model: Just in time for the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, the automaker opens order books for the new Toyota Hilux GR Sport.
Meanwhile, the GR DKR Hilux T1+, the winning car in the Dakar Rally led by Nasser Al-Attiyah and co-driver Matteo Baumel, will be presented as part of the Eifel Classic on the legendary Nordschleife.
Toyota Hilux GR Sport is the new top model in the range
Inspired by the successes of the desert racing edition, the Hilux GR SPORT will go on sale this summer with total prices starting at €60,035. Its powerful 2.8L engine produces 150 kW / 204 hp and generates a torque of 500 Nm. The Hilux GR SPORT is available exclusively as a double cab and retains the impressive loading capabilities of the production version. 3.5-ton trailer load (brake) and one-ton load capacity underscore its versatility.
The main feature of the improved suspension system is the introduction of a new monotube shock absorber and front springs. The monotube construction allows for a larger piston area for better damping characteristics, with faster response and better heat dissipation. At the same time, the effect of the oil inside is retained even under heavy use.
The front coil springs have been tuned to be stiffer, and like the new dampers, they are painted red to emphasize the GR’s character. Compared to the production Toyota Hilux, these changes result in significantly improved handling, lighter steering response, better straight-line stability, less body motion and a greater feel for rear-wheel grip.
The new setup also significantly improves ride comfort, with a faster response to high-frequency vibrations, more damping and therefore better shock absorption and control of the vehicle’s motions.
Sporty design inside and out
Inside and out, the Hilux GR SPORT wears typical GR sports design. The aggressive front design is enhanced by new, larger fog lamp bezels. The black grille features a special grille design and a distinctive horizontal center stripe with classic Toyota lettering in place of the branding: a tribute to its predecessor from the early 1980s. The 17-inch aluminum rims show a contrast between the black-lacquered and machined vacuum.
The black theme continues on the mirror caps, running boards, cockpit bulges and the tailgate handle. All this creates a stark contrast with the red springs and dampers. This motif is also present on the interior, where a red decorative line runs across the entire width of the instrument panel.
The sport seats for the driver and front passenger are covered in partial leather with red perforations and contrast stitching. The lettering GR SPORT can be found on seat backs, floor mats, the start button and the information display animation graphics.
Lots of equipment for Toyota Hilux GR Sport
Hilux GR SPORT is based on the high-quality equipment line of the production version, which includes LED headlights and combination lamps, dual-zone air conditioning, hill descent control and an automatic limited-slip differential. Exterior colors are Snow White, Platinum Pearl Effect White, Light Silver Metallic, Marling Grey, Jet Black, Red Metallic and Titanium Blue Metallic.
The fact that the original Hilux pickup truck has long been proven in one of the tests. As the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, it takes a step forward and is more dynamic than ever. This also meets the needs of Toyota customers, who also place an increased value on sporty looks in the pickup segment.
