Stefanos Tsitsipas comes from a very athletic family. His father, Apostolos, is a tennis coach and has taken care of his son since he was three years old. His mother is of Russian descent and a former WTA player. Two brothers and sister of Stefanos Tsitsipas – Petros, Pavlos and Elisavet – play tennis at the Nice Tennis Academy. Stefanos Tsitsipas played his first tournament on the ITF Junior Tour and in the Orange Bowl. He reached the final in this important international tennis competition in 2014 and 2015. Shortly thereafter, he successfully appeared in Junior Grand Slam tournaments. He reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals several times and caught the attention of the tennis world. Shortly before his promotion to the Pro League, he was at the top of the world junior rankings. In 2016 he participated in the ATP Challenge Tour. At the time, he already had four Futures titles and 14 consecutive wins. After two more matches, in which he reached the finals, he climbed to the top of the 200.

A few defeats followed until the tennis player finally won his first Challenger title in Genoa in 2017. This catapulted him to 120th place. In the next five tournaments on the World Tour, he played in the main draw every time. He finished the year in 91st place. Because of this good placement, Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to regularly participate in the World Tour events in 2018. At the Masters Tournament in Toronto, he won against four players from the top ten.

The year 2019 began with a Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne, where the professional tennis player reached the semi-finals. After that, his performance waned until the end of the year. But he then won the ATP Finals and finished the season sixth on the leaderboard. Stefanos Tsitsipas started the 2020 season in this position, and in April won his first Masters 1000 and reached the final of the French Open. This makes him the first Greek to reach a Grand Slam final. As a result, the tennis player took third place in the world rankings. He is currently at number 5 (as of May 2022).
