In the new elections, the previous board was installed in all offices: Knut Stegmann remained chairman with his deputy, Karsten Martini, secretary Wolfgang Weddel and treasurer Olaf Strauss remained. Leon Rautman will join the Board of Directors as an additional member of the Board of Directors alongside Marvin Meng. Thus, the Executive Council enters its fifteenth year in office. Söhnke Hohls, Dominic Stephan, Daniel Neitzke, Julian Kaffka and Niclas Dollinger are honored for their 25-year membership in the union. Uwe Bast has been honored for 50 years and thus twice his height.

Applause to SuS veteran Hartmut Milda

But no one could come close to Hartmut Melda: The SuS veteran has been a member for 70 years. Not only was he awarded a certificate and badge of honor, but he was also the first to be awarded the new club record – in which he himself plays a key role. A separate chapter is devoted to the “exceptional striker of the 1950s and 1960s” and top scorer in the Amateurliga 7, then the second highest amateur league in Germany.

Klaus Steinbrücker, a member of the Emeritus Council and co-author of the historiography, says Milda played a crucial role in shaping the association for nearly 20 years as a secretary. Worshipers rose to warm applause. The honoree himself emphasized the great cohesion among SuS athletes – and it’s important to continue strengthening it. Milda lived the great times when there was women’s handball, water polo and even boxing at SuS. Today only football, baseball and badminton are played there.

Ball fences are being renovated

Manfred Fleming also received applause from the Honorary Council, the initiator of SuS historiography, which has spent two years rigorously researching the club’s history and supported by Klaus Steinbrücker, Daniel Netzek and Marvin Meng with editorial contributions. Finally, Secretary Wolfgang Weidl reports that this year it is planned to renovate the ball fences and to increase the care of the playing areas. Süleyman Karakaya received the final applause in the evening when the longtime first-team coach agreed to be on the sidelines again next season.
