C-City project: Gutersloh starts a European cultural network

A large cultural network has been created from Gutersloh. The inaugural conference of the C-City project will be held in Stadthalle Gütersloh from 12-15 May. 40 participants come from the twin cities of Gutersloh alone. The cultural network aims to promote artistic exchange and shared ideas.

European Culture Network – Made in Gutersloh

C-City Conference May 12-15 in Stadthalle – Finally ‘live’ again – Planning phase begins – Conference registration still possible until April 27

“Europe is Neighborhood” and getting closer to each other at the inaugural conference of the C-City cultural project: about 40 participants from the partner cities of Gütersloh in Châteauroux (French), Bristow (Britain), Falun (South) and Grodziads (P) are the only guest in Gütersloh from 12 to May 15th. The occasion is the inaugural conference for the ambitious C-City project, which aims to create a cultural network from Gutersloh. Art exchange, developing common ideas, learning from each other: all of this is implied by the project idea, which comes from the city’s cultural experts and is implemented on site in close collaboration with the Adult Education Center and in coordination with the city’s twinning office of public relations and central representation of the city. Not only the partner cities are invited to attend the conference, but also all residents of Gutersloh who wish to participate in the European network of culture “Made in Gutersloh”. Registration is still possible until 27 April via the website www.C-City.eu.

After several virtual votes, the conference in May is the next step for further planning for City C, which heads towards 2025. Four major themes emerged from previous joint votes: sports/food/sustainability, remembrance culture/museum/customs, music/theater / Dance in addition to visual arts and arts in public spaces. The first sketches of ideas together have already been developed, and the sketch for the children’s opera “Pollicino” by Hans Werner Heinz has already been implemented. C-City will be presented in a film to which all participating cities have contributed – along with much other information, accessible on the website www.C-City.eu.

The first City C Conference focuses on the project’s core idea: inter-city cultural exchange, technical cooperation on various projects as well as project ideas refinement and further selection. The Gutersloh initiative is also closely watched by the state and federal government. The German Foreign Office and the European Ministry are represented by keynote speakers. Among other things, Dr. Stefan Holthof-Pfortner, Minister for Federal and European Affairs NRW, and representative for foreign cultural policy at the Federal Foreign Office, Irmgard Maria Willner, announced introductory keynote speeches. Also Dr. Multi Tim Zabel, Co-Director of the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s “Future of Europe” programme, is on the list of speakers. Lotte Foth, Head of Europe Direct in the district of Gütersloh, presents the municipal aspects of the topic (see program overview below).

Artists and musicians from the area also introduce the cultural diversity of the local scene. At the end of the conference – on Saturday – there should be a ceremonial signing of a charter showing the will to cooperate and implement the project. Andreas Kempel, City Councilor for Cultural Affairs in Gutersloh, says: “With the first conference, we are laying the foundation for the European C-City building, which will grow floor by floor over the next few years and in its rooms, step by step, cultural life and the life of civil society will move on. The residents are on In particular the cultural representatives from Gutersloh, Grodziades, Brustow, Fallon and Chateauroux. The doors of the house are open, transparent and based on European values!”

After the conference before the conference: Châteauroux has already confirmed that it is the host city for the next update in 2023.

Not only the partner cities are invited to attend the conference, but also all residents of Gutersloh who wish to participate in the European network of culture “Made in Gutersloh”. Registration is possible until 27 April via www.C-City.eu.

The conference is supported by the Minister for Federal, European and International Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, by Bertelsmann, by Gütersloh Marketing GmbH, the entire Department of Culture and Further Education of Gütersloh, under the coordination leadership of the Department of Culture and the Adult Education Center as well as the Twinning Office of the Department of Relations Municipal general.
